Mail Filter Service Allowable Attachment Type Info While the possibility of not configuring a list of "Not Allowed Attachments" (NAA) is optional, we highly recommend starting with a list of all Windows executable file types. You may send us your own custom list of file types or use our default NAA list which includes the following file types: ASD ASP BAT CAB CHM CMD COM CPL DLL EML EXE HLP HTA INI JS LIB LNK MSI MSP NWS OCX PIF REG SCR SCT SHB SHS SYS VB VBE VBS VBX VXD WSF WSH XML Note that the above list still allows all Microsoft Office file types, PDF files, plain text files, and most of the more common file attachment types. The list represents all of the known Windows operating system executable file types that can actually infect a machine with a virus. By filtering these files out of the equation, the remaining file types that can possibly contain a virus are severely limited and well known to our virus processor. One other use of the NAA list is to limit the "time wasting" humorous graphics files that are so frequently circulated in an office environment. Many of our corporate clients have seen gains in productivity and less wasted time in the workplace by limiting graphics files in emails. Again, if a graphics file is needed, the sender need only include it in a ZIP file to get it thru the filter. This takes extra time and for the casual "joke-sender" will be barrier enough to curtail the activities. It is also optional to specify a size limit for allowed attachments. This can keep folks from receiving ridiculously large attachments, like program files or large music/video files which are normally not considered good use of email in a business. The default is to NOT limit attachment sizes.
